Will I Fit In On a Retreat?

July 21, 20253 min read

Let’s be honest: if you’re reading this, you might have already dismissed the idea of a retreat for yourself. Maybe you picture groups of perfectly zen women, all green juice and yoga pants, sharing stories in candlelight, while you sit on the sidelines, feeling like a bit of an imposter. Maybe you’re convinced retreats are for “other people.” The ones who already have it all together.

Here’s a secret: Most of the women who join us felt exactly the same at some point.

If you’re not even sure what you’d get out of a retreat or you’re worried about not fitting in - this is especially for you.

“I’m Not a Retreat Person.”

I hear this all the time. In fact, I used to say it myself. Maybe you don’t see yourself as someone who drops everything to go on a yoga break in Bali, or perhaps you can’t imagine yourself lounging by a pool in France with a group of strangers. You’re not alone.

Most of us spend years putting other people first: kids, partners, colleagues, even pets. Our own needs slowly slip down the to-do list until we forget what they even are. The thought of carving out space for yourself (never mind flying to another country to do it!) can feel selfish, indulgent, even a bit… alien. Imposter syndrome has a habit of whispering that you’re not “that kind of person.”

But the truth is, there’s no “type” for needing a break. You don’t need to be bendy or glamorous, outgoing or adventurous. You just need to be you, and if that’s messy, tired, uncertain, and all - thats ok.

What If I Don’t Know Who I Am Anymore?

Here’s the beautiful thing about stepping away from your usual routine: you get a rare chance to remember who you are outside the roles you play. Retreats are less about finding yourself and more about rediscovering parts you thought you’d lost. Maybe you haven’t made a decision for yourself in years. Maybe you don’t even know what would make you happy anymore.

That’s exactly why so many women join us.

You don’t have to arrive with answers. Just turn up with a suitcase and an open mind. Let us do the rest.

Travelling Alone, But Never Alone

The idea of booking a retreat solo can be terrifying. “What if I’m the only one on my own? What if I don’t fit in?” It’s a valid fear. But here’s what actually happens: most people come on their own. And even those who arrive in pairs quickly realise they’re part of something bigger. There’s no in-crowd, no pressure, no one expecting you to be anything other than yourself.

And if your partner isn’t into spa days, or your friends would rather go to Ibiza than the Dordogne, that’s fine. This is your time, your adventure. But you’re never left to figure it out by yourself. Our team and your fellow retreaters are there, ready to welcome you in. You can dip in and out of activities, do as much or as little as you like, or just enjoy some rare, unstructured “me time.” No pressure. No judgement.

What Do You Actually Get Out Of It?

You’ll see somewhere new, perhaps somewhere you never would have gone otherwise. You’ll share laughter (and probably a bottle of wine or two) with people you never expected to meet. You’ll gain insights from our expert hosts, and more importantly from each other. Sometimes the best advice comes from someone sitting across the dinner table, who just “gets it.”

But mostly, you’ll get space to breathe. Space to think. Space to remember what it feels like to put yourself first, just for a little while.

And you might just find, as so many women have before you, that you leave with more confidence, new friendships, and the quiet certainty that you do belong here, after all
