Travel More... (a letter to my Younger Self)

June 15, 20233 min read

Dear Younger Me,

As I sit here reflecting on the journey I’ve taken in life, there’s one piece of advice I wish I could give you: travel more. Yes, you heard that right. I know you’re busy with school, work, and the everyday demands of life, but trust me, exploring the world will be one of the most enriching experiences you’ll ever have.

You see, traveling isn’t just about visiting exotic destinations or snapping Instagram-worthy pictures. It’s about immersing yourself in different cultures, broadening your horizons, and discovering the incredible diversity that exists beyond your comfort zone. The world is a vast and beautiful place, and it’s calling out to you.

So, why should you travel more? Let me share a few reasons that I’ve come to realise along the way:

  1. Perspective: Traveling allows you to see the world through a different lens. It opens your eyes to new ways of thinking, challenges your preconceived notions, and helps you understand that your way of life is just one small part of a much bigger picture. It humbles you and reminds you that there is so much more to learn and experience beyond what you know.

  2. Self-Discovery: Traveling pushes you out of your comfort zone and forces you to confront your fears and limitations. It presents you with situations where you have to rely on your own resourcefulness and adaptability. Through these experiences, you’ll discover strengths and capabilities within yourself that you never knew existed. You’ll grow as a person and gain a newfound confidence that will stay with you throughout your life.

  3. Connections: When you travel, you have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. You’ll make connections with individuals who come from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. These connections will teach you about the power of human connection and the beauty of shared experiences. They will broaden your understanding of the world and leave a lasting impact on your heart.

  4. Memories: Some of the best memories you’ll ever make will happen while you’re exploring new places. From watching the sunrise over a breathtaking landscape to getting lost in the vibrant streets of a foreign city, these moments will stay etched in your mind forever. They will become stories that you’ll eagerly share with friends and family, and they’ll bring a smile to your face even years down the line.

I know it may seem daunting to embark on these adventures, especially when there are responsibilities and uncertainties in life. But take it from me, the rewards far outweigh the challenges. Start small if you must, but make a commitment to see more of this incredible world.

Travel with an open mind and a curious spirit. Embrace the unknown, step outside of your comfort zone, and let the magic unfold. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll learn about yourself and the world around you.

So, my dear younger self, pack your bags, book that ticket, and set off on the adventure of a lifetime. The world is waiting for you with open arms.

With love and wanderlust, Your older and wiser self
